On Tuesday mornings, BWAGs meet by the horse sculpture in the parking lot of Museum of the Rockies, 600 W. Kagy Blvd. There are three hiking or skiing groups (one of which brings dogs) and one biking group, and the destinations depend on preferences, weather, time constraints, etc., sometimes arranged ahead of time and sent to each group’s email list, and sometimes decided on Tuesday morning in the parking lot. Groups carpool (or bike) to their destinations and enjoy beautiful Big Sky country, exercise, some natural history, and friendships. Drivers are reimbursed for gas and car wear & tear based on the distance driven and road conditions. (Informal rule of thumb: $2-4 for each total hour of driving.)
Summer: Wear hiking boots/biking garb and bring water, lunch, sunscreen, and clothes for inclement weather. (Weather in the mountains can be very unpredictable, and, difficult as it sometimes is to imagine, can become dangerously cold in a very short time.) We leave at 8:00 or 8:30am (unless a special meeting time has been arranged beforehand) and usually return between 3:00 and 6:00pm in the afternoon.
Winter: Bring ski equipment, warm clothes (plus emergency clothing), lunch, water, sunscreen. We leave at 9:00am and usually return between 2:00 and 5:00pm in the afternoon.
Dues are two “dimes a time” ($10.00/yr) and go toward supporting local non-profit organizations that have helped the BWAGs during the year.
Newcomers are welcome!
Most women’s preferences can be met in one of the groups, and in all you will find friends and fun.

Group Descriptions and Contact Persons
Bushwacker and Backcountry –
Two BWAGs groups, Bushwhacker and Backcountry, meet on Tuesdays at the Museum of the Rockies (MOR) parking lot (east end near the horse statue). In the past, a basic difference between the two groups was that the Bushwhackers sometimes hiked off trail, while the Backcountry group preferred hiking on trails. Now both groups hike on trails nearly all the time. Although while some of the oldest BWAGs are members of the Bushwhackers, essentially there’s little difference between the two groups in the hikes they choose.
Neither group posts an annual hiking schedule on the website. Decisions are made at the MOR with BWAGs offering suggestions of recent hikes or favorite hikes for the weather and season. During the hiking season, the two groups often meet at the same time. This enables BWAGs to decide on the spot which of several destinations from either group to choose for that day. BWAGs can request being added to the email list for either the Bushwhacker or Backcountry group or they may request being on both email lists.

Tailwaggers –
Tailwaggers are mostly trail hikers, but do appreciate opportunities to get off the beaten path. Hiking is generally a steady pace with distances of up to 15 miles or more possible, but generally around 10-12 miles. We do welcome dogs but like to keep that number down to a maximum of 5-6 dogs for the group; occasionally we may need to split up the group to lessen the impact on other hikers.
Tailwaggers meet on Tuesdays at the Museum of the Rockies (MOR) parking lot (east end near the horse statue). We do not post an annual hiking schedule on the website. Decisions are made at the MOR with BWAGs offering suggestions of recent hikes or favorite hikes for the weather and season.
